Argyle & Diced Hose/Stocaidh Earraghàidheal is Breacaichte

Photobucket ARTAN OR "ARGYLE" HOSE ARE TYPICALLY worn with evening wear, but this is not a "hard and fast" rule. They are so reserved usually because of the greater expense involved. One could certainly wear them every day if desired. Originally, these hose were known as cadadh (pronounced CAD-AY) and were made from tartan cut on the bias and joined by a seam running up the back of the leg. Today, they are knitted in a diagonal pattern that compliments the tartan of your kilt. These tartan hose are available as either full hose or (footless) hose tops. Hose tops are usually worn together with spats by both military regiments and pipe bands. Both forms are also available with a castellated top instead of the usual fold-over.

Diced Hose are much like tartan hose, save the pattern is simpler. They are also worn with evening wear and are available in both full hose and hose tops. Hose Tops are especially popular with military regiments and pipe bands. Any colour combination is possible and the most popular are red with white, red with black, green with black, and blue with white. Like Tartan Hose, Diced Full Hose or Hose Tops are available with a castellated top instead of the usual fold-over.
